The “M” Word

Expect a wave of criticism for this (from Mayor Thane’s blog):

The New York State Economic Development Council (NYSEDC) has awarded the City of Amsterdam “Best of Class” for its printed promotional materials, as well as “Best in Class” for the city website, in its 2011 Marketing and Promotional Materials Competition.

Because, you know, we should not, could not, would not, market.

Of course, marketing the inevitability of  woe, despair, decline, ruination… why that we can market all so well.

Sigh.

  1. Mayor hopeful Wills claims on his election website that he is going to eliminate all funds for marketing the city, not that there has been much budgeted for marketing anyway. Penny wise, pound foolish.
