If you doubt how truly awesome the concept of shared services is in practice, please read this story here on MOSA.

Here’s a key part that points to its awesomeness:

Thayer is concerned about the bill’s directive to split MOSA assets by county population considering it would reduce Montgomery County’s share from 42 percent to 34.5 percent.

We pay 42 percent but we only get 34.5 percent back?” he questioned, adding he believes Montgomery County shouldn’t have to make up the shortfall when Otsego County secedes.

Thayer said there hasn’t been an opportunity yet for Montgomery County officials to come together to discuss the financialimplications. He said the issue was not discussed at MOSA’s meeting Thursday, noting Otsego County representatives were “mum.”

McCarty took issue with Montgomery County’s position it was “blind-sided” by the legislation.

“It’s not true. Everyone knew the talk about diffusement. And if anyone else had the opportunity, they would have done the same thing,” he said

So when Montgomery County pays 42% and gets 34% of the assets — awesome.

So when Montgomery County Supervisors wail at how nothing can be done on MOSA but Otsego somehow extracts themselves from the dismal MOSA deal showing that indeed you can exercise political will to protect your own vested interest — awesome.

So when local pundits and elected officials worship at the altar of shard services as the solution when the experience with shared services proves totally othersise –
awesome.

So when shared services is still a platform that voters and pundits believe and worship year after year– truly awesome.

And when the very same County faces a crushing set of financial problems, possibly including a shutdown, and the County writes letters to the city chiding its financial management -- wicked awesome.

And when the city supervisors demagogue on the fate of the poor tax payer, herald a petition to fight excessive taxation and ultimately abide by their own self-proclaimed that 3% should be the tax limit cap before dire consequences on the local economy– that will be the awesomest. (The awesomest thing that will never, ever happen)

You see, kids, shared services — always awesome. And always the answer regardless of the problem.
